Joshua’s House

Joshua’s House

WSMC

September 29th, 2006 . by admin

Well, I have an appointment set up for my meeting with WSMC. It will be the week after this next one. I am very eager to see how things turn out. I figure the worst case scenario is that they’ll say no, but I’m praying that God will open the doors. He has an increadible plan for Joshua’s House, and I can’t wait to see where He will lead.

I’m still working on the scripting. I’m probably going to hold auditions for the audio production after spring break. I’m still not sure how I want to do them. It is important for me that I base my decisions on voice acting alone. For that reason, I have to come up with some way to do the auditions in a way that I will not see the people as they are auditioning. I need to continue to make this a matter of prayer. I know God will lead me to the right people.

I also need to work on getting something up for the Joshua’s House website, as I may be putting posters up for the auditions all around. The research team is working on finding some information for me. As soon as I recieve their findings, I will be able to write the introduction and filler material for the episode.

I still need to find someone who is willing to help with finding funding for Joshua’s House.

There is so much to do. Sometimes it is a little overwhelming, and it’s tough to hear people tell me that I can’t do it. And you know what, they’re right. I can’t do it, but God can, and there is no doubt that this is His project.

God is teaching me more

Horray! With God’s help, progress is still happening on Joshua’s House! Yesterday, I found a script from a radio show online. I downloaded it and immediatly found a place where I could download the finnished product. Looking at the two side by side taught me a TON!! One of the first things I discovered was the format of the scripts. I realized right away that this was not formatting that would be friendly to any software that I currently have, So I got online and found Celtix. This is a free piece of software. It’s amazing! It is so helpful, and already I’m learning a ton more about scripting, and production in general. The script is moving along much faster now too!

Tommorow I am going to call and set up an appointment to talk to WSMC about using their studio for recording. I’m honestly not sure how they’ll respond - the e-mail was a little iffy - but if the studio is in God’s will he’ll make it happen! If not, He has something better in store for us! Just pray that the meeting will go well!

Urgent needs

September 21st, 2006 . by admin

Well, things are certainly moving along, however, not as fast as I would like. This is what has been going on with Joshua’s House lately. First of all, Joshua’s House has an offical mailing address now. Joshua’s House PO Box 1922 Collegedale TN 37315-1922. This is exciting news. As I have been gathering things together to begin the recording of the pilot episode I have notticed a few things. First of all, we can’t really begin recording until we aquire a $350 piece of software (adobe audition). Therefore, we have to raise this money somehow. In the meantime, I have sent out the research needs that we have to two people who have volunteered to do research work for Joshua’s House. This will help with the sound effects and the artwork. I have also come up with the current crew that I need to find. The current needed crew is as follows:

Fund Raiser: This is our biggest need currently. We need someone with a passion for Joshua’s House. It is this person’s soul job to come up with fundraisers, and to find ways to bring in the funding Joshua’s House desperetly needs.

Sound Editor/Producer: This person will be working directly under me and will oversee the recording process. He/she will be doing all of the final editing and will be working with the Music Coordinator, Sound Effects Coordinator and Acting director to make sure that everything comes together with the kind of sound a feel we are looking for.

Scrip Writer: This person will simply take the NIV text of the book of Luke and turn it in to script form, using the Bible word-for-word as the scipt.

Acting Director: The acting director will be working with the actors as they record. He/She will also help with casting and scheduling.

Recording Director: The recording director will be present at all recordings and will be in charge of the technical side of the recordings. (Setting up and taking down equipment, etc)

Technical Assistants: The technical assistants will mostly be helping the recording director, but may be asked to help the music coordinator, or Sound Effects Coordinator as well

Sound Effects Coordinator: This person gets to decide what sound effects will be added into the production. He/she must have a good ear and be willing to be flexable. He/she will be provided with the results of some reasearch that will help to pick realistic sound effects. He/she will put suggestions into a script and then see to it that the sound effects are added.

Sound Effects Scout: Once the Sound effects coordinator knows what he/she wants, it is the job of the Sound Effects Scout to find the appropriate effect. The scout will be proviede with verious resources to find these effects. They may not, however, purchase the effect without approval from Joshua’s House director.

Sound Effects Producor: It’s a reality that we won’t be able to find all of the sound effects that we need. We will have to make some of them. That’s where the Sound effects producer comes in. This person will be able to be fully creative in coming up ideas and then recording the sound effects that we need.

Music Coordinator: It is very important for any good audio production to have subtle music intertwined at appropriate times. The Music Coordinator needs to have a nack for this, choosing the scipt areas where music needs to be inserted. This is his/her job, to be in charge of the musical content of the productions. This includes creating/finding a theme song for the productions.

Music Scout: The music scout will work with the music coordinator to find the music that we need for the audio productions.

Well, that’s pretty much it. That’s where we’re at right now with Joshua’s House.

Big News For Joshua’s House

September 15th, 2006 . by admin

I just got word from Zondervan and we have the permissions and go ahead to use the NIV Bible for the recording of the book of Luke!!! HORRAY!!! This is such a huge blessing. The rights have only been granted for Luke, and for each book I will have to submit for permission again, but this is wonderful news just the same!!! Yay! Thanks for all your prayers and keep praying - Now, I am going to get auditions ready and get things moving for the pilot - then maybe we can raise some money!! Our God is amazing!!

Ministries Expo unleashed

September 10th, 2006 . by admin

Well, Friday night was the ministry expo and really the first exposure for Joshua’s House. It was so much fun shairing with lots of people what Joshua’s House is all about. I have to admit I felt a little like a sales person, trying to get people involved, whcih was odd, but over all, I think the whole thing was a big success. 25 people signed up. I know that may not sound like a lot, but it’s certainly a start. I’m hoping to make announcements at area churches to get more involvement too. For some reason that prospect is a little scarry for me though.

Last week I talked to Dr. Reynolds about sources for historical accuracy in our portrayal. He suggested that I write out the questions and look for each one at a time. I can get some general referances, but basically there is just so much material it’s hard to pick out just one or two things that will do the trick. Therefore, I have started making questions for the pilot episode. I’m so excited!! I’ve also been looking at Amazon and I have found a few books that would make a wonderful start for our library.

The ministry expo helped me to see what I’m really getting into. I’m kind of nervous because this is a HUGE thing and I really don’t know what I’m doing, but at the same time I have total peace. I know this is what Moses must have felt like when he was called by God. Yet, if we look, God surely equipped him, and I know He will do the same for me!

Moving Right Along

September 6th, 2006 . by admin

Well, things are still moving for Joshua’s house. I haven’t posted in a while, but I can fill you in on all that’s happened. I have come to the conclusion that Dr. Hasel and Miss Caldwell are nearly impossible to get a hold of. As such I began snooping around online and found the papers for the 501(C)(3). I haven’t started filling them out yet (governmental paperwork scares me), but hopefully I can put a big dent in them this weekend. Joshua’s House also recieved it’s first income. My parents gave us a donation of $70. This went towards some materials needed for the Ministry Expo coming up on Friday. There is some left over too. I will put that in the bank or something and use it for sound effects, books, or other materials/needs Joshua’s house may come to. I’m excited about the ministry expo! I’m just praying that God will start working on the hearts of some people today and that He will send the right people to our booth!!

Making Improvements

September 3rd, 2006 . by admin

Today I got a few things done for Joshua’s House. I made all the documents for the ministry expo on Friday. They are not quite ready to be printed yet - the still need a little tweaking, but I figured out what the display would look like. I’m working on making signs with each of the four phases of the ministry. I made fact sheets. I want to hand those out like crzay. That way people who aren’t willing to commit right then will be able to have something to remind them about the ministry later. I also worked on interest cards, which are good, but I can most certainly make them smaller and save paper. My fabulous husband also helped me with the mission statement. I’m not 100% sure we’re done with it yet, but it’s much better. This is what we currently have:
The goal of Joshua’s House is to point to the Bible as the primary source of truth, hope and guidance for life. As parents and their kids study, understand, and internalize God’s word, they will learn to have an intimate and all encompassing relationship with Him. Through this shared relationship the family can become a safe place for growth, support, and worship together.

I also have the skeleton of the script for the pilot run, and I found an online library that I can use for the sound effects and music for the pilot of the audio productions. Things are deffinatly happening! Horray!

Mission Statement to be revised

September 1st, 2006 . by admin

As I have been preparing for the Ministries Expo, I notticed that there is a problem witht the current mission statement. It doesn’t mention anything about family growth and strengthening. Therefore, I need to work on getting that changed. No other new news as of yet. Hopefully I’ll get a chance to spend a lot of time on Joshua’s house this weekend.
